BERC
speed shades
BERC is an original pair of sunglasses. The design emphasizes speed and athleticism, with a lens shape that contours to the user's nose for a comfortable fit and a distinct look. The lens colour varies depending on the angle and lighting, ranging the full colour spectrum. Primary areas of development in this project were in team organization and allocation, concept generation, and prototyping.

IDEATION
Following some internet inspiration, sketching allowed us to explore unconventional looks to create a truly eye-catching lens and frame.

ERGONOMICS & DIMENSIONING
At this stage, we had settled on a look, and progressed to determining the product dimensions. This was done by referencing pre-existing glasses, creating quick paper mock-ups, and finally doing a detailed CAD drawing.

MOLD MAKING
After planning out the mold dimensions, we used the band saw, dremel, and other shop tools to achieve the mold for thermoforming.

THERMOFORMING & LAZERCUTS
We lazer cut and thermoformed 6 lenses, four of which were high enough quality to fit our frames.

02 FINAL DESIGN

The final designed blades have an inset by the ear for improved comfort. The pin hinge is designed such that the outside mate is flush when BERC is opened.
